Hurling League Div 3 Burren Rangers 9.5 St Patrick's 2.6

Played in Kilbride pitch on Friday 5/5/17 this game was nearly over after 15 minutes with the home side leading by 5 goals to nil with Kilkenny mam Jarelth Bolger at full forward cleaning house with the wind bringing lots of ball his way.

St Pats had the wind in the second half and won the second half, but also hit a lot of winds.

Paul Sheppard got both goals in the second half but the home side had the game won by half time and were fully deserving of the win. Bolger got 6 goals and set up a few scores too!

One great part of this game was to see a man that both sides are so fond of that to the field later on. Anyone who has played GAA in Carlow over the last 30 odd years will know and admire James Connolly. Forming a Pats player, James (who now lives in Ballon) trains the Burren Rangers team. Well.. late in this game his side needed a sub and there were none, James does what he does best and took his hurl in hand and took to the field of play and marked a few of his former Tullow students for the last 15 minutes!

St Patrick's play St Mullins next Friday night in Bro. Leo with a big improvement needed.

Sean Smith, Michael Smith, Allan O’Neill, Ryan O'Neill, John O'Brien, Jamie Ansbro, Sid Hogan, Pádraig Murphy, Richie Cooper, Paul Sheppard  (2-3), Shane Farrell (0-2), Ben Jackman, Nathan Doran, Brendan Keogh, Gerry Dooley.

This game was played in Leighlinbridge on Tuesday 02/05/17 on a lovely Summer’s evening.

St Pats dominated this match from start to finish and lead 3-9 to 0-3 at the interval. With Jack Kennedy, David Tobin and Julian Strain getting the first half goals. Eoin O’Toole, John Fitzgerald and Kennedy got the second half goals with Leighlinbridge being outplayed only scoring one point in the second half.

In  a one sided match Steven Murphy will still be happy to be getting a settled team towards the end of the league. A victory over Palatine in two weeks time would secure a semi final spot for the Tullow side.

Team; James Tobin, Conor Murphy, Lee Kavanagh, Ronan Byrne, Darren Butler, Jamie Ansbro, Jack Ryan (0-1) , Stephen Nolan(0-3), Allan O’Neill, Ross Hanley(0-2), Garreth Fitzgerald, Jack Kennedy (2-5) David Tobin (1-3)  Eoin O’Toole(1-3) Julian Strain(1-0).

John Fitzgerald (1-0) for Julian Strain

Frank Wallace for Stephen Nolan

Division 3 Rd 4 Div 3 - Old Leighlin 2-7 St Patrick’s 2-8

posted 5 May 2017, 00:36 by PRO St Pats,Tullow,Carlow

This game was played in Old Leighlin on Tuesday 25/04/17 on a chilly evening. St Pats started the brighter, and aided by a first half breeze had a 1-6 to 1-4 lead at the interval. Eoin O’Toole got the goal; however, the Tullow side would feel they should have been further ahead at the break with some great running by Farrell on the wing.

The second half opened well for Pats as Hanley found the net within 2 minutes of the restart followed by a pointed free from O’Toole. Old Leighlin came back into it and got the equalising score to make it 2-7 each with 4 minutes remaining. Tullow sub Owen Doyle kicked what turned out to be the winning score. Old Leighlin had a 45’ at the death to draw level but hit the post.

The St Pats full back line of Conor Murphy, Kavanagh and Gahan were solid throughout, while James Tobin made a few crucial saves. Nolan kicked 3 points from midfield with Ross Hanley impressing most in the forwards. That’s 2 wins from 4 matches, and with 3 games left we will need at least 2 wins to secure a semi final spot. We take on Leighleinbridge next Tuesday in round 5 of Div 3. There is no Div 5 game this week. With a few keys players missing tonight for work, injury and county commitments, the season is starting to take shape for Stephen Murphy’s charges and a good panel is forming.

It’s always good to get a win under the belt in the first night out in new jerseys, and the club thanks Woodlawn Development once again for sponsoring our team for 2017.

Team; James Tobin, Conor Murphy, Lee Kavanagh, Rob Gahan, Darren Butler, Jamie Ansbro, Jack Ryan, Stephen Nolan(0-3), Allan O’Neill, Garreth Fitzgerald, Ross Hanley(1-1), Eoin O’Toole(1-1), Jamie Farrell, Jack Ryan, Padraig Murphy, Garreth Fitzgerald(0-1), Julian Strain(0-1).

David Tobin for Eoin O’Toole, Owen Doyle(0-1) for Darren Butler.

Division 5 Rd 3 Ballon 4-13 St Patricks 1-9

posted 5 May 2017, 00:35 by PRO St Pats,Tullow,Carlow

Played in Ballon on Thursday 13/4/17, Mick Hade’s team took the field for the third round of the league. This was a closer game than the score suggested but the Ballon full forward did all the damage. Scores win games, and especially goals. We need to improve, there are just too many mistakes were made. It was great to see Sid Hogan back on the field after a head injury 2 weeks ago kicking 2 points from wing back. Julian Strain (the new barber in town!) continues to improve while Nolan and Fitzgerald once again worked well in midfield. A few more scores should have been taken in the forward line, but many chances were created with some good link play and if we can convert more we will start getting points on the table. Noel Goss, who is our longest serving player in the club, found the net after his late introduction.

Every player who was 17 or older on 1st Jan 2017 should be pushing to play Div 5 and Div 3 football. There are plenty of young players in the club who will improve our teams, along with the ones who have already burst onto the scene with such good effect this year. The club are training at 6pm on Sat and all players are expected to start putting football to the fore.

The club have also decided that our minor team will be the ones receiving the FREE kit we won in the Lidl online competition; a pair of shorts, socks and training top will be presented to all of the minor football panel (which included some fine footballers from ages 15 up to 18). This presentation will be done over the next fortnight.

Div 5 Team; Jeremy Berry, Blain Cosgrove, Conor Murphy, Gary Maxwell, Paul Sheppard, Julian Strain, Stephen Hogan (0-2), Stephen Nolan(0-3), Gareth Fitzgerald (0-1), David Tobin (0-2), Lorcan O’Toole (0-2), Brian Kenny, Jamie Garry, Robert Byrne, Cillian Fludgate.

Sham Comerford for Fludgate HT, Noel Goss(1-0) for Nolan 47mins.

Div 3 Rd 3 - St Patrick’s 0-11 Tinryland 3-8

posted 5 May 2017, 00:32 by PRO St Pats,Tullow,Carlow

This game was played in Bro. Leo on Tuesday 11/4/17. The away side led 2-6 to 0-3 at the interval with St Pats not showing up at all. They were off their men and very sluggish. The second half was better with more determination shown but all the possession couldn’t be turned into enough scores and even though we got it back to 3pts at one stage, the last score of the game was a goal by Tinryland to give them a 6 point victory.  We are away to Old Leighlin next Tuesday in Div 3, while in Div 5 we are at home to Ballon this Thursday.

Team; James Tobin, Conor Murphy, Lee Kavanagh, Aimean Maher, Ross Hanley, Ronan Byrne, Darren Butler, Stephen Nolan(0-1), Garreth Fitzgerald, Jamie Farrell, Jack Ryan, Jack Kennedy (0-9), David Tobin, Robert Byrne, Padraig Murphy (0-1). Julian Strain for Robert Byrne.

Division 5 Rd 2 Fighting Cocks 1-15 St Patricks 0-8

This game was played in the Fighting Cocks pitch on Thursday 6/4/17 with a very close first half our lads were well in it however a poor second half performance meant it’s 2 games and no points on the board for us in Div 5. We won the midfield battle with Fitzgerald and Nolan playing well along with a few others but overall the team did not perform well.

A better showing against Ballon in Bro. Leo Park in Rd 3 is needed.

Team; Jeremy Berry, Blain Cosgrove, Conor Murphy, Gary Maxwell, Paul Sheppard, Jamie Byrne, Conor Maxwell, Stephen Nolan(0-6), Gareth Fitzgerald, David Tobin (0-1), Brian Kenny, Robert Byrne, Julian Strain,  Nathan Doran(0-1), Noel Goss.

FL Div 5 Round 1 St Patricks 1-5 Fenagh 0-13

posted 31 Mar 2017, 01:04 by PRO St Pats,Tullow,Carlow

Played in Bro. Leo Park on Thurs 30/3/17 on a wet night this game was tough for the home side from the start when manager Mick Hade had to tog out to fill the team (he played well too!)

The visitors lead 6-3 at the break with the Tullow lads struggling to convert possession into scores, the three points we got were very good, with two fine points from Stephen Nolan and Robert Byrne (both of whom along with Conor Murphy and Davy Tobin played the Div 3 game against Fenagh on Tuesday night too!)

Sid Hogan and another Kenny free the second half kept us in touch until with 12 minutes to go Davy Tobin brought the sides level with a goal at the near post from a tight angle but the Tullow side did not score again as the visitors hit the last 5 points of the game. There are some great footballers here and hopefully with a few extra faces next week we can try get on our way to retaining the Div 5 league title that we won in 2016.

The club hopes to see all players, girlfriends, family and friends over to support our last main fundraiser for the year on Sat night in the Seven Oaks Hotel for our fight night “Battle of the Border” v Coolkenno GAA Club. Tickets €15 and there are only a few left!

Team; Jeremy Berry, Blain Cosgrove, Derry Nolan, Gary Maxwell, Stephen Hogan (0-1), Conor Murphy, Paul Sheppard, Stephen Nolan(0-1), Gareth Fitzgerald, David Tobin (1-0), Brian Kenny (0-2), Robert Byrne (0-1), Mick Hade, Nathan Doran, Noel Goss.
