The fifth round of the Div 3 league took place on Wednesday 28th April for St Patricks away to St. Andrew’s second team with ref Jonathon Murphy allowing a flowing game. This was a fifth straight league win for the Tullow men but it didn’t all go their way. St Pats played towards the town end, against a strong wind, in the opening half and dominated the early stages leading by 4 points to 0.1 with a clever fisted score, from Eoin O’Toole, the pick of them. However, on 16 minutes St Andrew’s Gavin Phelan hit the back the back of the net after a goal mouth scramble. The home side hit the net again on 24 minutes when Liam Galway raised the green flag. St Pats were keeping in touch with 6 first half points from the accurate Jack Kennedy. Lorcan O’Toole and Ben Hade had goal chances just before the break but didn’t take advantage leaving Pats trailing by a point at the break on a score of 2.4 to 0.9.

Anthony ‘Muckle’ Keating got his troops re-organised at half time and St Pats dominated the entire second half kicking 11 points and getting the goal from another clever Eoin O’Toole flick after a Ben Hade delivery. The pick of the points were from Stephen Nolan who kicked one from 55 yards, followed by a similar effort from Lorcan O’Toole. Young Hade kicked two second half points and looked comfortable in possession, making himself available in the right areas and looks like a promising player. Frank Wallace marshalled the full back line well throughout, and Kennedy finished with a whooping ten points, 0.6 of them from play. St Pats lost possession around the middle third far too much through a lack of concentration in this game. However, in the end it was a convincing win and puts Pats firmly on top of Div 3 with two games remaining.
