The fifth round of the Div 5 league took place on Wednesday 29th April for St Patricks away to Leighlinbridge. St Pats started the brighter and had a half time lead of 8-6, thanks mainly to some fine work from Eoin Doyle at centre forward. Doyle is just back from a long spell off with injury and kicked 4 fine points in the first half.

The second half saw tempers boil up with Pats manager Eoin O’Toole becoming involved in a “debate” with his Leighlinbridge counterpart. The turning point of the game came on 44 minutes when Keith Dore slid in soccer style on a cross field ball and smashed it to the net. Leighlinbridge had a penalty in the late stages but hit it wide, Craig Tumbles responded instantly at the far end for Pats with a fisted effort that hit the back of the net to give the Tullow lads some comfort. This was a spirited team performance, with special praise to net minder Ebbie Quigley who made some important saves to keep his team in the game as crucial stages. Stephen Hogan and Seamus Comerford(who kicked a fine score) worked the lines well and supported the hard working midfield pair of Johnny Fitzgerald and Paul Canavan throughout.

St Pats Junior Cs have remaining games against Ballinbranna, Clonmore and Fighting Cocks (all away) as well as home fixtures versus Kilbride and Tinyerland. They will need to get four victories from these games to put themselves in contention for the semis. Team mangers O’Toole and Mick O’Neill, along with captain Gary Maxwell, want all available players to get involved for the second half of the league.

Pats Team: E. Quigley, G. Maxwell, D. Brady, Johnny Tobin, B. Cosgrove, A. Moran, S. Comerford(0.1), J. Fitzgerald(0-2), P. Canavan(0.1), S. Hogan(0.1), E. Doyle(0.4), C. Tumbles(1.1), S. Byrne, K. Dore(1.0), R. Jones.
