Developments of Br. Leo Park;


They are as follows:

  • Edward Moore gave a field to practice on at Cannons Quarter at start of 20th Century
  • Pitch situated on farm of Peter Doyle Loughmartin 1917
  • Field purchased Ballymurphy Road in 1931
  • Wexford v Laois in Leinster SFC at the pitch 1934
  • Works needed to upgrade pitch- 1957 sub committee formed
  • Field levelled by Michael Iran, Bagnelstown 1957
  • Two new dressing rooms built 1958 (current Juv Store/Tractor Shed)
  • Side-line wall erected by John Halpin 1959
  • New sub committee set up under Jim Murphy, to continue works 1960
  • Purchase of almost 2 acres (from the Church of Ireland for £325) adjoining main pitch (now Juv pitch) 1962
  • Erection of road wall and entrance gates 1963
  • GALA Opening of Br. Leo Park 24 April 1966
  • Gaelic field now known as Br. Leo Park 24 April 1966 official opening
  • Erection of new steel goal posts 1983
  • 1987 erection of wall behind Ballymurphy goal
  • Barbed wire changed to straight wire around pitch, dressing rooms cleaned up and new showers 1995
  • Main clubhouse completed in 2006 after a long process
  • New gates entrance to Br. Leo Park 2006 with thanks to Hardy Eustace (horse owed by Lar Byrne)
  • New state of the art flood lights on the main pitch 2009 with help from Sports Capital Grant
  • New flood lights on the juvenile pitch 2009
  • New larger dressing rooms, new showers & toilets 2010 
  • New Hurling wall 2010 (this and above thanks to Texaco Sports Grant Sept 2010)
  • New Walking track (fully lit until 9pm 7 days a week) opened 2013 with help from Leader Grant
  • Full refurbishment of the gym & main hall 2018 with help from Sports Capital Grant
  • Kitchen refurbishment & pedestrian entrance to club from new hard surface external car park 2018. All 3 projects completed with thanks to Woodlawn Developments
  • New Balcony access on clubhouse 2019 with thanks to Woodlawn Developments
  • Painting of interior and exterior of clubhouse 2019 building with thanks to Rathmore Coatings
  • BeKind wall logo added in Summer 2020 by artist Paul Byrne (during Covid lockdown) with help from Carlow Arts Grant/ Pieta Hse fundraiser
  • Main entrance plastered and small wall by clubhouse enhanced Mar 2021 with thanks to Woodlawn Developments
  • Refurbishment of exterior of old dressing rooms (Tractor/Juv storage area) Summer 2021 with help from Carlow Arts Grant/Ann Duffy/Rathmore Coatings. James Griffin memorial bench later added by Griffin family, sponsored by All Stone
  • Referee room developed within clubhouse, with oil tank moved to container Sept 2021
  • Upgrade of lights within clubhouse main hall and gym Oct 2021
  • Refurbishments/extension of main dressing rooms 2021 with help from Sports Capital Grant, official opening Summer 2022. Works by Wayne O'Neill Construction with several sponsors assiting in funding the project.
  • Re wiring of fence around main pitch Summer 2022
  • Upgrade of lights on Juv pitch to LEDs with thanks to Sports Capital Grant Dec 2022 (Part 1 of 4)
  • Re-construction of boundary fence along Juv pitch Mar 2023
  • Refurbishment of generator for main lights system of Br Leo Park with thanks to Woodlawn Developments Apr 2023
  • New ball stop netting on behind all goals with thanks to Sports Capital Grant May 2023 (Part 2 of 4)
  • Re-design and layout, inclusion of foot paths and undersurface restructure of main entrance, completed by Carlow CoCo May 2023
  • Purchase of adult size and juv size high quality match standard portable goals with thanks to Sports Captial Grant June 2023 (Part 3 of 4)
  • Installation of pedrestrian fencing at bottom of juvenile pitch and at entrance to main gates with thanks to Sports Capital Grant Oct 2023 (Part 4 of 4)
